Episode 68: Gotta Serve Somebody

Gotta Serve SomebodyGini and Tim are back from the Irreverends’ Summer Sabbatical with a brand new episode! Join us as we explore a moment in the book of the prophet Jeremiah when God’s people have hit rock bottom and we discover that the bottom holds, and there really is a balm in Gilead.

Then we turn to the Gospel and hack through one of the MOST BIZARRE stories in the WHOLE BIBLE, trying to make sense of the impossible. We do our best, but THE STRUGGLE IS REAL! So when Tim’s Greek word study still doesn’t quite resolve our intrepid hosts’ problems with this odd story, Tim turns at last to Nobel Laureate, Bob Dylan, who saves the day.

Editor’s note: We would have loved to end this episode with a clip from Bob Dylan’s 1979 song, “Gotta Serve Somebody,” but Tim couldn’t get iTunes to believe that the short clip was a fair use so as not to violate the copyright. If you’d like to hear this soul-saving, Grammy-winning gem, here is a (long) classic version. Enjoy!

Oh, and the song Gini kept trying to think of was Smash Mouth’s “Walking on the Sun.” Here it is.
